Pronounced ām’bē-əns, like “ambient room temperature”  not  ahn-byahns, like a fancy atmosphere, the Ambience Series is inspired by music.  It’s about simple and bold composition, the visual field, space and mood.  These paintings are heavily textured, full of trowel work and layers of transparencies.

Water: The Element Of Surprise

The application of paint is a wonderful thing. I prefer creating effects rather than something representational in these ambient works. The use of water and accidental techniques that limit or do away with control all together are often more beautiful that something contrived.
Painting this way is like playing jazz: I’m the rythm section, and the paint gets to solo.
