Bio
Liam Jones is an emerging artist, educated at both York University and the Ontario College of Art and Design. He is distinguished by an accomplished technical facility and free spirit.
Jones’ first body of abstract art is concerned with subconscious communication. He is a modernist painter, using an informed approach to materials. His sense of composition is personalized and identifiable. Much of his work has a violent aspect, but remains easy on delicate sensibilities: You could call it a catharsis within a pervasive optimism.
Artists’ Statement
My most recent work is about design and creative process. My work is not social criticism, nor escapist, but an honest dialogue about the human condition energized by the joy of painting.
I spend time visualizing before I paint, so each mark is deliberate, but I also embrace accidental methods. I am inspired by the decay of surfaces and the passage of time.
I paint to create the singular experience a painting brings naturally, and not for the sake of illustration.
I’m not telling the whole story, but like clouds or inkblots, the viewer’s imagination completes the picture.
